Call for Jomalig Island Outreach and Mapping Project

Jomalig Island is a remote island at the eastern part of Luzon, frequently battered by waves and easterlies (habagat) especially during the typhoon season. This island has pristine white beaches however because it is located very far from the mainland, the inhabitants have problems to which its children needs your help.




Having a sandy soil and being 64 nautical miles away from mainland Quezon where this island is part of, rice can hardly be planted and supplies seldom get to the island.

As such, 2012 report of the Department of Social Welfare and Development has tagged this island of having the most malnourished children in the Philippines.

A fellow backpacker and adventurer, James Betia of Journeying James have thought of a feeding program on the island. See the Project Jomalig: Feed the Kids Program.

Schadow1 Expeditions will be going to the island on April 12, 2013 to support the program and at the same to map the island.

As of this time, the mapping data to the island is zero as such, it would be very hard for non-government organizations to stage humanitarian mission to this island. No mapping data means, logistic planning will be hard.

With this current reality, Schadow1 Expeditions will be there for this mission. Yet both projects need your help and we are once again knocking on our subscribers and readers to support us.

Last December 2012, you have helped us on our Batulao Slipper Outreach in Nasugbu, Batangas. Now, the children of Jomalig, Quezon needs it too.

The data that will be obtained from this map up mission will be contributed to +OpenStreetMap Philippines to which data will be free for all.
